What?
Wishbones is a trombone ensemble for children and young people aged 8 - 16 in Newcastle.
The group is led by professional trombone player and educator Ian Sankey, and players learn in a fun and supportive group environment. The group also works towards exciting performances in and around Newcastle throughout the year, providing players the opportunity to experience playing for live audiences, and fostering a connection to the wider music-making community of the North East and beyond.
As well as learning to play the trombone and develop as a musician, Wishbones is a chance to:
Boost confidence and resilience
Develop social skills
Be part of a team
Make new friends

About your teacher
My name is Ian and I am a professional trombone player! I regularly play principal trombone for the Royal Northern Sinfonia across many of their projects, but I also play lots of music in smaller ensembles as well as solo. This is my website so feel free to have a look!
As a teacher, I have had lot of experience working with groups learning brass instruments. I am a music mentor for Newcastle charity Hand Of, I lead the Gateshead Brass Band at the Glasshouse International Centre for Music and I also lead youth brass workshops for County Durham based charity Jack Drum Arts!
I have an enhanced DBS certificate on the update service and have £10 million public liability insurance through my Musicians Union membership.
